Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival
About Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival
The Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival celebrates the first flowers of the year and the town's link with James Allen, the Shepton-born snowdrop enthusiast credited as the first person to breed snowdrops from wild plants. It is run entirely by volunteers, who plant thousands of bulbs around the town each autumn with the aim of turning it white.
The core programme centres on specialist plant sales, workshops, art and craft, and poetry and photography competitions, with fringe events, walks, open gardens and speakers added around it. Free creative activities for families run over the February half term, so it suits keen gardeners and curious visitors alike.
